F**K the Florida Marlins!

My team just traded away two good, reliable players for scrubs (AGAIN).

Yup, the Marlins have sent Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham to the Washington Nationals for Emilio Bonaficio and P.J Dean. Yeah, that is all a future 30+ home run outfielder and a 200 inning work horse pitcher is worth these days. UGH!

Following the tradition set in 1998, I have begun purging my Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham baseball cards. My once awesome Josh Willingham collection has hit eBay, for anyone interested (link). All proceeds will go to purchasing vintage wax and/or to continue chasing the ’97 Bowman Master Set.

I think I’m moving back to California.

Gotta agree with you Mario. This trade is a head scratcher. Marlins could’ve got a more for those two. And I don’t like inter-divisional trades either.

On a different note. R.I.P Preacher Roe, Brooklyn Dodgers legend.

I can’t see this one at all. It’s a clear salary dump by the Marlins, and I don’t see how anyone can see it any other way.

The Washington fans have got to be excited, though.

  3. Peter says:

Yeah, I figured with Olsen alone they could’ve gotten those players from the Nationals. But including Willingham? To the Nationals? Definitely a head-scratcher.

  4. dayf says:

Scott Olsen went to the Nationals?!? He was supposed to go to the BRAVES! The Marlins are too cheap to let players to go to arbitration now, that’s just pathetic. Maybe something good will happen soon for the Fishies, Lord knows Marlins fans deserve a break.

  5. Joe M says:

Bad, bad trade. Is this really a salary dump? I didn’t think these guys made much now. Maybe in a few years, but not now.

While you’re at it, can you also trade Uggla to the Giants for crap players too? Thanks.

  7. Dylan says:

    Yikes. Sorry.

I think it’s about time you walk away from this abusive relationship. How many more times can you tell yourself that things are going to change? Those emotional bruises aren’t from falling down the stairs, they’re from Mr. Lorria. Walk away Mario, walk away.

Definitely a salary dump. Your collecting style is like mine. Oh, you were traded? *pulls from collection*

Sounds like the Marlins didn’t think Olsen was worthy of a starting spot any longer. We all knew that the outfiled was going to change, but he was not the starting pitcher that I thought would be leaving us…

  11. Joe says:

Saw this trade and thought of you… what are they doing out there? Why the dump of all these quality players? When will teams finally realize that the way to draw fans – and hence generate revenue – is to put a product on the field that is worth paying to see?

On a positive note, I was given a Lids gift certificate for my birthday and I chose a Marlins hat… very nice.

Just noticed the “moving to California” line, hehe… yeah, come join me in San Diego, where the flailing Padres and their ever-increasing ticket prices are doing everything they can to trade away Peavy and rescinded their offer to Hoffman (I realize he’s not even a good closer any more, but he’s still a fan favorite… can’t keep him around for $4 mil???)

I’m not even a Padres fan, but I can imagine how frustrated they all must be.

Sorry to hear Mario. I know how you feel though. My Pirates have been doing this for years, including this year when they dumped Xavier Nady and Jason Bay.

  14. Jeremy says:

Even Bill Bavasi thinks this is a bad trade!

As an M’s fan, I feel your pain.
