2009 Topps Heritage preview!

2009 Topps Heritage is based off 1960 Topps, the final horizontal Topps release. All signatures will be “on-card” plus there will be ten cut signatures from players of that era, including Mickey Mantle. There will also be randomly inserted original Topps ’60 cards in boxes.

One autograph or relic per box. No release date as of yet.

  1. Newspaperman says:

I really like the 1960 Topps design. This could be my favorite Heritage release to date.

  2. Mario A. says:

Yeah, looks like Topps is coming out strong in 2009!

  3. alex c says:

    they look pretty cool!

  4. chemgod says:

    ugh another heritage set. Enough!!!

  5. Paul says:

These look nice, but Heritage always seems to get killed by too many shortprints.

  6. Newspaperman says:

Has anyone actually seen a star buyback card with that “new” foil stamp? All I have seen (from ’08) were commons …

  7. Biagio says:

    Very cool

  8. Jeff W says:

I love Heritage, it’s what brought me back to the hobby. I have been waiting for the 1960 remake, but I will no longer be doing the set. It pisses me off that they released a high number set this year. I wouldn’t of burned through half as much coin. Ah well, at least I got an on card Aparicio auto.

  9. Presales I’ve seen show a Feb 25th release date…

  10. Peter says:

I’m all over that set. That’s one of my favorite Topps designs. I have the actual Roger Maris, Roberto Clemente and Harmon Killebrew cards from that 1960 set.

  11. Looks nice! I always like the 1960 set.

  12. Stephen says:

I dunno – I just dont know if I have it in me again.

  13. night owl says:

Heritage rocks. Short-prints suck. Do the honorable thing, Topps.

    Heritage-SPs=happier collectors.

  14. madding says:

They should definitely drop the SPs and add more inserts to replace them or something, if they feel it’s necessary.

  15. Code Blue says:

Love me some Heritage. I’ll take it any day over most products.

  16. Erin says:

The alternating colors (on player names) is somewhat distracting. Particularly on the Pujols card. That aside, it’s rad.

  17. dayf says:

Damn, I love the 1960 set. I’m really looking forward to this, especially since the ’08 High Series is garbage.

Newspaperman – I’ve never seen anything that could be remotely considered a star from those buybacks and I was really looking for them too.

  18. jl says:

This set looks pretty good, I’m glad that they are still putting in the vintage cards even if it has the foil stamp. Past and present autos look good no sticker.

  19. Bryan says:

I really like the 1960 design.
As times get tough, I will have to eliminate some of the sets/products I buy and collect.
Heritage will def. be a set that I try to build in 2009, though.

  20. houstoncollector says:

Have to admit, I like how these look.

  21. Beardy says:

Looks good to me, but I’m a sucker for some vintage. Am I alone in wishing Heritage was glossy?

  22. BASEBALLDAD says:

These will bring back a lot of memories to me. 1960 Topps was one of the first experiences I had with baseball cards when I was 9 years old. I was an Indian fan ,but to me , Mantle was ” The Man “

  23. kkoz1973 says:

i have collected the 07 topps heritage and 08 heritage i will do the same for the 09 set.

  24. mfw13 says:

Heritage is great. Given that most “modern” sets have hideous designs and too much foil, it’s nice to have sets featuring classic designs on good old-fashioned cardboard.

As to the number of SP’s, I think that it is just about right. Completing a Heritage set is not easy, just like completing the original Topps sets that they were based on was not easy either.

Only complaint would be the introduction of a separate high-number this year, which was a patently transperant attempt to make Topps more $$$.

Also, I wish they had continued making Topps Heritage in other sports besides baseball. There are plenty of superb Football, Basketball, and Hockey designs yet to be used, even accounting for the butchery that was 2005 Heritage FB. How about FB sets based on 1962 Topps, 1964 Philly, and 1969 Topps, for example, or another college focused set using the 1955 Topps All-American design. For Hockey, the 1967-68 and 68-69 designs both rock, and several of the late 70′s designs are nice too.

  25. Mark Koolers says:

Yea… I’m pretty impressed with these!

  26. Veeks! says:

Do I really need to wait 7 years for the ’67 remake? Will the Heritage sets last that long?

  27. Mickey579 says:

I have the 1960 Mickey Mantle with the imprint.
