Here are some brand spanking new images of 2009 Goudey which looks a lot like the 2007 version. As expected, Wax Heaven received no information but *sources* tell me the Goudey set will contain 300 cards with with one autograph or game-used relic per Hobby box.
Each case will include a 1933 Goudey buyback card along with one Sports Royalty autograph. No word yet on the initial release and checklist.
What do you guys think of ’09 Goudey thus far?

Classy looking as always and no Jeter says, who cares about that.
I think they should scrap it if they can’t manage a bit more consistency in the player likenesses. I’m not even going to worry about buying the Mets cards.
Son of bitch, that looks way better than the crap they came out with this past year. Any word on short prints?
Looks pretty nice. I was thinking Goudey might be one of the sets I go after this year, that is of course if they don’t ruin it with short prints.
As usual Mario. Best news source in the blogosphere. Personally I still prefer A & G but I like to see how their 2009 version looks like.
Zzzzzzzzzz. And why is the ’09 Griffey card the same pose as the ’08 card?
Unless the reds just signed griffey again, UD is lazy.
All the player images are the exact same as the ’08 set. They’ve just been put on the ’33 Goudey design. My guess is this is just a mock up until they get new Goudeyfied images*. I like the ’35 quad cards but they look a little stretched in standard card size. If it’s like the last two, they’ll have 200 base and some short prints. I don’t mind the short prints, just not eight billion of them and insert them one in every other pack or so.
Also: mini card in every pack! Enough of this 7 per 24 packs or whatever nonsense they did last year.
*It almost looks to me like someone just photochopped some of the ’08 cards. The Griffey relic looks squished… I trust Mario’s sources though, I’m just naturally cynical.
Kinda blah, the problem is Upper Deck picked a company (Goudey) that had only like two or three designs so they are running out of ideas and recycling them. Here’s an idea. 2009 Fleer tradition, based on the 1981 Fleer set. There ya go.
Oh, yeah, that can’t be the ’09 card since Griffey doesn’t even have a team right now.
I just don’t get the appeal of UD Goudey. The likeness thing (or lack of likeness) just kills the set.
I don’t like the players image looks. Too freaky. I’m glad Jeters face is not on half the set. That sucked.
And again with the cut-backs. 08 had 1 auto AND 1 gu.
They’ll charge the same price for the box though I’ll betcha!
The full base set is actually 300 cards.
200 card short-set
20 SPs
40 Sport Royalty
40 1938 Heads Up
SPs drop at the rate of 1:3
Chris, thanks for the info!
It is beyond stupid that Upper Deck would put out a set that looks just like the 2007/1933 Goudey. No one will buy this.
After listening to the podcast interview with Chris Carlin earlier today, everything UD is doing this year is beyond stupid.
Dave: 2007 Goudey swiped the 1934 Diamond Stars design. 2009 is swiping the 1033 Goudey design.
Chris: For the short prints, do you mean 1935 Goudey Quads instead of 1938 Heads up? That Ichiro/Griffey/Pujols/Jeter is the ’35 design.
JAYSUS KREISS I’M PUMPED! One o’ my favorite sets is back in ’09!
dayf – I’ll have to schedule an eye doctor appointment because my 2007 Goudey’s look just like 1933…
looking a bit redundant these days.
Dave: It’s the backgrounds. Upper Deck directly swiped those funky art-deco backgrounds that they used in the ’07 set from 1934 Diamond Stars. I’ve got an example here:
http://cardjunk.blogspot.com/2007/09/2007-goudey-review.html
The red bar at the bottom was taken from the 1933 Goudey set, but the backgrounds are all Diamond Stars. The ’09 set looks like they will be using the solid backgrounds of the ’33 set.
Nothing like beating a dead horse>
I agree with Guido….not enough to differentiate it from the 2007 and 2008 sets to make it worth spending $$$ on.
Okay, my eyesight blows – are the cards going to be the size of the 07s or the 08s?
