Twelve-time All Star and ten-time Gold Glove winner, Roberto Alomar, is being sued by his former girlfriend. The lawsuit claims that Alomar has AIDS but insisted he was disease-free when they were together. Eventually, she noticed cold sores in Alomar’s mouth and in 2006 a test came back positive for the second basemen and Hall of Fame candidate.
An AIDS test given to Alomar’s ex came back negative but that didn’t stop the lawsuit. The report also claims that Roberto confessed that he was raped by two Mexican men when he was 17 years old.
Alomar, one of the game’s all-time great second basemen is still remembered for spitting in the face of umpire John Hirschbeck. As of now, it’s being reported that Roberto, 41, has full-blown AIDS, is suffering from fatigue, chronic cough, erectile dysfunction, and a blood disorder commonly linked to AIDS.

Wow. That’s horrible. I guess one can only hope it’s not true. It’ll be sad if another one of baseball’s greats also qualifies for induction into the “All-Time Worst People” wing of the afterlife. Charter member: Tyrus Raymond Cobb.
Also: Mario, thanks for posting this. I followed your link to the NYP, but I haven’t seen it on any of the other sites I frequent. You’re way ahead of the curve!
I was reading the Post looking for more info on Arod and was hit with it!
As for Alomar, I never much cared for him but for the sake of his family I hope it’s nothing more than a frivolous lawsuit.
I hope he didn’t do that. It’d be a shame if any of this is true. Especially if he didn’t get tested until 2006. He could’ve put full blown aids off by treating it. Look at Magic, but I guess if he got it at 17, it might just be his time. Sad all-around.
Man that is sad. He was one of the first baseball heroes i knew when I first learn bout the game and for some reason, i happened to have a few of his cards from random pack buying.
I noticed the NYP article this morning from a post on a separate blog. Hard to imagine, isn’t it?
I don’t think the title of this post is appropriate – especially if you don’t know all of the facts.
I absolutely hated the Blue Jays and in particular, Alomar back in the day. Words can’t really describe it. But I do hope this isn’t true, you don’t want to hear that there’s anyone who would do this sort of thing.
Even if he does now have AIDS it’s unfair to sue him unless he new he had the virus at the time of.. well u know.
I was blown away when I read this. As a Blue Jays fan, I was a huge Alomar fan back in the day…one of my favourites from our World Series wins. Definitely let down by this news.
Wow this is sad on so many levels.
I just sat down to lunch and had to read; mouth sores, cough, dysfunction..sheesh. I never liked that ass after the spitting incident. Peace.
What?? Man, I don’t like Roberto at all but I don’t wish that on anybody. Jesus, can we just have ONE nice baseball story going into spring training?? This is getting depressing.
He may have been a total douche, but the Alomars are a great baseball family and I hope this isn’t true. I wouldnt wish that on anybody… well… no – not anybody… that said, I have to agree with Jason In Dallas – that Hellbound title does not seem appropriate – plus Heaven and Hell arent even real.
What the Hell is going with Major League Baseball?
Baseball is becoming like wrestlemania!
Let’s not blow this out of proportion. This is all “alleged” in a lawsuit. Lots of things that aren’t true are alleged in lawsuits. It truly would be sad if this turns out to be true though.
When he played with the Mets, I heard tons of stories and rumors about him while I lived in NY from people who worked for the organization.
I’m actually not surprised to read this.
well what exactly did you hear about the man? And again just because you heard something doesn’t make it true, jesus you sound like an old lady at a freekin hair salon man, get a grip…
