Today we decided to hit the Florida Marlins Spring Training workout to see just what it was like. Located in Jupiter, Florida, the Marlins share the facilities with the St. Louis Cardinals and as expected, everyone came to see Prince Albert. That move by the fans led Tatiana and I to have the greatest baseball experience we’ve ever had.
Imagine ball players walking all over the place with minimal fans in attendance and a willingness to sign anything and pose for as many photos as possible. I got to watch superstar Hanley Ramirez fake hump one of his teammates during stretching, see Alfredo Amezaga tease Dan Uggla during warm-ups, and witness John Baker have a conversation with his biggest fan and incidentally, my wife, like they went back years years (Tatiana will blog about it soon).
When the Marlins first showed up, almost on schedule, Andrew Miller walked up to us expecting to have to sign signature. Having already signed Tatiana’s bat, we simply shook his hand and wished him luck in 2009. Man, it’s great being one of the few Marlins fans because these players truly respect the game and care about the fans!
Today was better than any game or Fan Fest. It was truly an amazing experience!

Wax Heaven favorite, Dallas McPherson, signing for Tatiana

Despite having a police escort, Hanley Ramirez was very approachable

Keep your eye on the ball, Alfredo Amezaga
Glad you had lots of fun Mario!!!! Let’s hope the Marlins and Angels have great seasons this year!!!
Thaks,
Harrison
Aaagh, you’re making me wanna go to Spring Training so bad!
Good times.
My parents are going to the White Sox Spring Training next week. So jealous.
Cool mario! I wish I could make my way down to Port St. Lucie to go see Big Pelf! Owell Ill have to settle for TTM!
See, there is a benefit to rooting for a mostly anonymous team.
I kinda wish I was in Florida (or Arizona) right now.
You are some lucky and bright folks.
I am sure if more folks went to the trouble they would really enjoy the experience.
enjoy it while it lasts, the Marlins rotation looks tough this year.
Nice shot of Amezaga.
I’m jealous…. I’m heading out there on Tuesday!!!
That’s awesome. I love the photos and stories, thanks.

man, that sounds like a great time.
I think I’m going to try to go next year
