  1. Code Blue says:

Michael Phelps jokes would be too easy at this point.

I’ll be getting a few boxes.

  2. Those look nice. I think I’m gonna buy some.

  3. Mike says:

I am always a huge A&G fan, and I really like what they have done this year, if the lincecum is any indication the base will have a little more color. I know I will end up with 3 crappy relics like normal but it is still a thrill to open the packs

  4. Alan says:

Wow. Those are some sexy cards.

What is a Hobby Box of this likely to run me?

  5. Grand Cards says:

Seriously? That’s a killer price point

  6. Jeff W says:

Jeez I’m a sucker for this stuff.

  7. beaverman3001 says:

Gah, I’m still trying to finish the 08 autograph set >.>

But I’ll still try atleast 1 box of this, always enjoy it.

  8. Looking forward to these although I hope to god I don’t pull a Napoleon pube

  9. Newspaperman says:

Goddamnit. Why do these have look so good?

  10. Newspaperman says:

Why is the Napoleon card a 1/1? Did they really only buy one strand of hair?

  11. Aside from reading this blog, this is the set (in 2008) that got me back in the hobby….looks great, can’t wait.

  12. jscratch says:

    when is this released?

  13. Max J. says:

gerr that is the same pick as last year for the lincecum

  14. more hawaiian shirt borders! cool.

  15. offy says:

Wow, I was just mentioning to my wife at a card show the other day how I couldn’t tell which A&G cards I had of a player and which I didn’t by sight because they pretty much look the same, but that can’t be said about 2009. I love the Lincecum, but that looks like a mini to me. I wonder if the full sized cards will have as much blank space around the photo as previous years. I’m guessing that Pujols is one of this year’s thick decoy cards.

  16. Tim says:

Three weeks earlier than last year right? Hope its not delayed, I can’t wait.

  17. handcollated says:

You know, i was worried that I would grow bored with the A & G design this year. Guess I don’t have to worry anymore. That Lincecum looks like a mini, though. Any images of the full size base cards?

  18. msriflegirl says:

The cards look good…I cant wait!

  19. dayf says:

Very nice indeed… I’m looking forward to this.

Mario, I borrowed the Lincecum card for a post if you don’t mind.

  20. AdamE says:

Can’t wait. The only one left of my two favorite sets (RIP Masterpieces). June 29 means it will release just in time for my b-day.

  21. Jesse says:

    Wow, those look awesome!

  22. Tim says:

That Poe relic is enough to get me to try my hand at this product….

  23. Ken says:

To me this represents the best of what card collecting has to offer at this time. The cards are beautiful and reasonably priced. Thought and care seem to go into not only the design but the insert sets and extras as well. Sure there’s nice design on some of the other high end cards but these seem to be to be the best style for a reasonable price.

I’m going to try to get a complete set of every year since they came out. 2009 looks to be great.

  24. Very nice. I’m going to save up my money and just invest in building a set of this. A&G makes that kind of an easy decision. Bought a box of Heritage and thought I was going to really want to build a set of it…..and I don’t. Didn’t really excite me like I thought it would.

  25. Beardy says:

Yeah, definitely saving up for this set. Looks good, and it’s nice the design is a little different this year.

  26. Drew says:

not too crazy about the base, but the relics look amazing!

  27. mfw13 says:

Nice looking cards, but what on earth is Napleon Bonaparte doing in a baseball card set?

Just another example of a good set being disfigured by inane inserts/relics that the people buying the cards couldn;t really give a damn about.

People buy retro sets like A&G, Heritage, and Goudey for the card designs, not for the hits.

Really wish company’s would start selling cheaper packs w/o inserts so that collectors have the option of whether or not they want to pay extra for packs with inserts.

  28. ikescards says:

Thanks for the info. I’m definitely buying a box or three of these.

  29. MetsManiacinNH says:

    I’m impressed.

I think I’ll take the plunge on this.

  30. Bryan says:

    nice scoop, Mario!
$65 a box for that is a good price.

  31. Michel Rivolta says:

A&G has been a strong product since it was born, well re-born, and this year is not an exception….nice!!!!!

  32. Thomas says:

    Wow. Butt ugly.

Reminds me of how they ruined Turkey Red in ’07. Amazing that they’d shoot themselves in the foot by ruining one of their most popular products like this.

  33. PTBNL says:

    mfw13,

I’m pretty sure the option for packs with inserts and packs without boils down to Target/Walmart vs. your local card store.

  34. Madyankees says:

    mfw13…u’re spot on.

  35. Eric Slette says:

Cripes, these look like the best yet. I must have the Nixon DNA card.

  36. Chris says:

Looks nice. I can’t wait for A&G – always one of my favorite sets to open and put together.

  37. Brandon says:

Beautiful as always. Best set on the market each and every year.

  38. Charlie says:

It’s not going to be $65 a box. Try closer to $85-90. Always is close to this price range.

Mario, you need to stop posting the direct pricing and getting people needlessly excited :P

  39. Mario A. says:

Charlie, I got an email from Topps about that quote letting me know it was a direct dealer price.

    My bad guys…

  40. Madyankees says:

You know, I like to see card companies produce a “hits” version and a “non-hits” version of their pdt. Sometimes the card designs and stuff is really nice but they dump in the hits and the box prices go through the roof. I think Allen & Ginter is still going to sell well w/o the “hits”. It sure would be nice if budget collectors are given a non hits cheaper version.

  41. JBob says:

Loved this product last year, this i will pick up a couple packs of, please Topps bring Billy Mitchell back!

  42. I didn’t think that their would be much difference in 2008 & 2009 allen & ginter but i can see that i’m looking forward to cracking a box of these guys!!!

  43. Really like the looks of the 2009 Allen & Ginter, hope to buy a box of hobby, need to find a good place for that though, have any suggtions? Ralph

  44. allen and ginter fan says:

On ebay some boxes are sold for $10 dont trust ebay I bought a box and it was opened. These cards look hot gotta get a jersey or auto because thats what everyone wants and without one its a waste of money!

  45. allen and ginter fan says:

I wonder if they have evan longoria jersey cards this year

  46. Rock says:

I’m surely going to by two of these boxes because they’re beautiful cards. I completed all of last year’s set and I’m hooked on building the set as well as pulling some sweet relics and autos. Last year I pulled a red ink autograph of Serena Williams from a rip card. I’m hoping to pull something HUGE this year like a 1/1 cut signature. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  47. Frank says:

How likely do you think it would be to see this in 2010? ALso, how many boxes do you think I will need to order to get the entire set?

  48. Jonnycakes says:

need a paul stanley chest hair relic

  49. Jesse says:

About how much does a case cost a hobby shop. I’m going in on a case break with 7 or 8 people and want to know how much I might need.

  50. loren says:

i did pull 14 jerseys and one bat card out of a box bought in zanesville ohio favorite card would be longoria jersey does anyone have a appx. value of this card.
